• why to take ninth person as x..?
  8 of them spent 12 rs each but 9th person spent 8rs more than others so we can take it as 12+8 right..?

• average=sum of cost of 8 persons i.e.,(12*8) and cost of 9th person divided by 9

  given 9th person spends 8 rs more than average
  so cost of 9th person meal = A+8
  therefore,
  A=((12*8)+(A+8))/9
  9A=96+A+8
  9A-A=104
  8A=104
  A=104/8=13
  Average=13
  total spent=13*9=117

  72 is the spent of 8 persons
  x+8 is spent by the ninth person
  
  => ((12*8)+(x+8))/9)=x
  => x = 10
  
  total money spent by them = (12*8)+(10+8) = 72 + 18 = 90
