  Let x lit of this liquid be replaced with water
  quantity of water in new mixture is 3-(3X/8)+X
  quantity of syrup in new mixture is 5-(5X/8)
  3-(3X/8)+X=5-(5X/8)
  24-3X+8X=40-5X
  16=10X
  X=16/10=8/5
