A man buys a milk at Rs.8.5 per litre & dilutes it with water. He sells the mixture at the same rate & thus gains 11.11%. Find the quantity of water mixed by him in every litre of milk ?

• Lets assume we have 10 litres of milk and hence it will cost Rs 85 (CP)
  
  Say, x litres of water is added to the mixture and there the final volume becomes (10+x) litres.
  
  Given that he sells the mixture at cost price and gains 11.11% i.e. 1/9.
  
  He sells this at Rs (10+x)*8.5 (SP)& makes a final profit of 1/9 %.
  
  Therefore by equating the values in the formula ( SP/CP-1 = Profit% ) we get x= 1/9= o.111 litre

• Let 100 litres of milk be there and y litres of water be added.
  Cost Price=8.5x100=850
  So selling price=850+((850*11.11)/100)=944.35
  Now,
  Also
  Selling price=(100+y)x8.5 , since to 100 litres of milk Y liters of water is added.
  Hence,
  (100+y)x8.5=944.35
  y=11.11
  Now in 100 litres 11.11 litres of water is present hence in 1 litre 0.1111 litres of water is present.
