A lady has fine gloves and hats in her closet- 14 blue, 20 red, and 18 yellow. T he lights are
out and it is totally dark. In spite of the darkness, she can make out the diff erence between a
hat and a glove. She takes out an item out of the closet only if she is sure that if it is a glove.
How many gloves must she take out to make sure she has a pair of each color?

- All the items are gloves then according to my opinion 14 blue- 20 red and 18 yellow are gloves, then atleast 40 gloves must be taken out to make sure she has a pair of each colour.
20+18+2=40 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(11) No(8)
- 14 blue 20 red and 18 yellow
to make sure that she has a pair of each colour leave the minimum value which is blue and add 20 and 18 = 20+18 =38
and 2 from blue gives = 38+2=40
so atleast 40 gloves must be taken. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(4)
- in the worst case say the lady takes out all the gloves of the same color, for the number to be minimum say she takes out all 14 blue. now on the next 18 draws she takes out all the yellow glove and now on the next two draws she will have a pair of each for sure...
so in order for her to have pair of each glove she has to take out at least 14+18+2=34 gloves.... - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(7)
- they said ATLEAST. the answer is 4.
wen she took out three gloves, n still has no pair of same color, den next glove she will take out, must b one of those 3 colors and ultimately a pair will b made. so SOLUTION Is 4 gloves

- in worst condition
14LB+(20*2 red)+(18*2 yellow)+ 1 RB = 91 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(5)
- If we assume that the lady takes out gloves of same color, taking the minimum number to be of blue, the lady takes out 14 gloves all of blue color then she takes out all of yellow colors i.e. 14+18=32. Now she already has pair of yellow and blue gloves, so in the next turn, she will take out red gloves only i.e. 32+2=34. So answer=34

- ans is 4. because if we take worst case then also if she took 3 gloves of different color.. 4th will make pair with any of the other gloves taken before

- suppose the lady first picks 20-red gloves, & then 17 yellow gloves. The next pair she picks will be one yellow & one blue which are not pair. Next she will pick 2 blue gloves. total is 20+17+2+2=41

- 14 blue- 20 red and 18 yellow are gloves,
make sure that she has a pair of each colour leave the minimum value which is blue and add 20 and 18
20+18 =38
and 2 from blue gives = 38+2=40
so atleast 40 gloves - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
- I think all hv different answers bcs if she picks red one first thn she has to pick atleast 33 more nd if she picks blue first thn she has to pick 39 nd if she picks yellow first thn she has to pick 35.
