Age Problem
If jam's age in 1994 is half of his grandmother's age. Sum of their birth years is 3844. What will be jam's age in 1999?
Read Solution (Total 8)
-
- in 1994, let the ages of GM and Jam = 2x , x
birth yr of GM = (1994 - 2x)
birth year of Jam = (1994 - x)
given,
=> 1994 - 2x + 1994 - x = 3844
=> x = 48
in 1999, the age of Jam = (48 + 5) = 53

- let 'g' be grand mother's age in 1994
jam's age will be g/2 in 1994
so,their birth years would be 1994-g and 1994-(g/2) respectivally
so 1994-g+1994-(g/2)=3844
so g=96 and jam's age is 48 and in 1999 he would be 53years. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(6) No(0)
- (1994-x)+(1994-2x)=3844
solving this for x we get , x=48
in 1999 jam's age will be 53 .

- in 1994, j age=x, G age= 2x....So D.O.B.=J=1994-x, G=1994-2x,,On addition A.T.Q.
3x=3844,,so x=48 in 1994,so 53 in 1999 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- here, in 1994 Jam of age=Grandmother age/2
ie,J=G/2
G=2J
(1994-J)+(1994-2J)=3844
3988-3J=3844
3J=144
J=48
Since,at the end of 1994 Jam's age was 48.
therefore in 1999 Jam's age is 53.[1994+5=1999, 48+5=53]
