two vertical poles 2m and 8m high stand apart on a horizontal plane. The height in meters of the point of intersection of the lines joining the top of each pole to the bottom of other pole is:
1) 1.8
2) cant be determined
3) 1.6
4) 5.6

- find equations of the two lines :
let horizontal distance be a
y=(8/a)x & y=(-2/a)x+2
solving x=a/5 & y=8/5 i.e. 1.6 ans

- height of the intersecting point does not depend on the distance between the poles because if the distance is increasing decreasing then the angle of the lines is also varying..
answer for this is 1.6

- ans: 1.6
using formula p*q/(p+q)
=2*8/(2+8)
=1.6
