Eesha bought 18 sharpeners for Rs.100. She paid 1 rupee more for each white sharpener than for each brown sharpener. What is the price of a white sharpener and how many white sharpener did she buy ?

• let the no. of white and brown sharpener is x and y respectively..
  and let cost of brown sharpener is a then cost of white sharpener is (a+1)
  so according to question
  x(a+1)+ya=100
  (x+y)a+x=100
  18a+x=100
  since x+y=18 is given in the question
  if we put a=5 in he question
  we get x=10
  so no. of white sharpener is x=10 and cost of white sharpener is (a+1)=6

  6*10=60 (10 white each is 6/-)left with 40. means 8 brown each is 5=> 5*8=40
