Time Distance and Speed
Two trains, Calcutta Mail and Bombay Mail, start at the same time from stations Calcutta & Bombay respectively towards each other. After passing each other, they take 12 hours and 3 hours to reach Bombay & Calcutta respectively. If the Calcutta Mail is moving at the speed of 48 km/h, the speed of the Bombay Mail is...
a) 24km/h
b) 22km/h
c) 21km/h
d) 96km/h
e) 120km/h
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- cal mail speed:bombay mail speed is 48:x
time ratio of two is 12:3
cal speed/bombay speed=sqrt(bombay time)/sqrt(cal mail time)
therefore,48/x=sqrt(3/12)
bombay mail speed=2*48=96 km/hr
thats the answer............... - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(5)
- answer is c) 96 km/h

- formula
calcutta train speed/mobay train speed=sqrt(3/12)
the speed of bombay=96km/hr - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(6)
- Time Ratio would be
t/3=12/t where t= Time taken by each to reach meeting point
hence t=6
so time taken by each to reach meeting point is 6 hrs and 3 hrs hence speed ratio would be 1:2 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(2)
