Time Distance and Speed
A train normally covers a certain distance at a speed 60km/hr.however if it were to halt for a fixed time interval in each hour its avg speed reduced to 50km/hr what is the time interval for which the train halts in each hour
Read Solution (Total 13)

- stoppage time per hr = diff in speed / faster speed (hr)
faster speed =60
slower speed =50
stoppage time = 10 / 60 hr = 1/6 hr = 10 min - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(25) No(1)
- initial speed 60km/hr
means it travel 60km in 1hr ,let x be halt time, now it will take (1+x)hr to travel 60km with speed of 50km/hr .... so 60/(1+x) = 50 means x = 1/5 hr = 12min halt time per hour... - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(22) No(7)
- Since the train travels at 60km/hr,its speed per minute is 1km/min. hence if it travels at avg speed 50km/hr then it is travlling for 50 mins only, so time intrval per our is 10min

- @guru your ans is right....and formula is absolutely right

- Suppose distance = 300 (lcm of 50,60)
time to cover in 60 kph= 5hrs
time to cover in 50 kph= 6 hrs
5 hour journey= 1 hour stoppage(extra time)
1 ” ” = 1/5 hour stoppage =12 min.
so, 12 mint stoppage per hour

- Train speed=60 km/hr.Means train cover 60 km in 1 hr.it cover 10 km in 10 min.
But gven new distance cover in 60 min=50 km.So it takes 12 min to cover 10 km.after traveling for 10 min it take halt of 2 min.after 10 min it takes 2 min halt so after 60 min it takes 12 min halt.
12 min halt will be after 60 min(1 hour).so it take only 10 min halt with in 60 min.

- sry guys , my ans is wrong . i found that formula in one blog, miss. aparna ans is right

- 10 min
initial speed is 60 km/h
reduced speed is 50 km/h
dat makes it a difference of 1 hr and this difference is because of 60 km/h
1 hr diff in 6hrs
in 1 hr = 1/6 * 60 = 10 mins - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- time of rest per hr=difference in avg speed/speed without stoppage
60-50/60=10/60*60
=10 minutes - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- faster speed =60
slower speed =50
60-50=10
now, (10/60)*60= 10

- if a train speed s1 km/h and with a stopage speed s2 km/h then train stop of every hour is =(s1-s2)/s1
= (60-50)/60
=10/60
=1/6 hours
=60/6
=10 min - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
