There are 10 stepping stones numbered 1 to 10 as shown at the side. A fly jumps from the first stone as follows; Every minute it jumps to the 4th stone from where it started - that is from 1st it would go to 5th and from 5th it would go to 9th and from 9th it would go to 3rd etc. Where would the fly be at the 60th minute if it starts at 1?

- 1+4=5(step at 1 min)
4+5=9(2nd min)
9+4=3(3 min)
3+4=7(4 min)
7+4=1(5 min)
1+4=5
5+4=9
9+4=3
3+4=7
7+4=1

if we follow the pattern the we can see value is cyclically repeated over a cyclic period 5,
so 60/5=12 remainder 0,
so value step at 5 min.
so ans is 1st step - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(18) No(0)
- at the same position 1st stone bcz in every 5 minutes it is at 1st stone so at the 60 minute it will be on 1st stone.

- SO EVERY 5TH STEP HE BACK TO THE POINT 1.
SO AT THE 59TH STEP HE AT POINT OF 7 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- Ans: At first stepping stone
Every min it jumps to the fourth stone where it was started.
It follows the stepping stones in the series of
1--5--9--3--7--1, and the loop repeated for every five min.
In 60 min it reach the same by covering 12 loops. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- 7, steps: 1,5,9,3,7 then 1 so multiple of 10 occur at 7 always

- Answer is 1
lets say the motion of the fly is described by equation
[S*(4N)+1]mod 10
where S=floor number from which fly had started its motion
N=Minute at which position of fly is to be calculated
mod 10 is because floors are only 10 so remainder term will give the number of floor from 1-10 where the fly will be at Nth minute
so for 1st Minute
N=1,S=1(fly starts from floor 1)
position=[S(4N)+1]mod 10=[1(4*1)+1]mod 10=5mod10=5(fly will be at this numbered floor after 1st minute)
At 2nd minute position of fly
S=1,N=2
[1(4*2)+1]mod10=9mod10=9(at floor number 9)
At 3rd minute
S=1,N=3
[1(4*3)+1]mod10=13mod10=3(at floor number 3rd)
At 4th minute
S=1,N=4
[1(4*4)+1]mod10=17mod10=7
similarly position of fly at 60th minute would be
S=1,N=60
[1(4*60)+1]mod10=241mod10=1(At floor number one is answer) - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
