A tape manufacturer reduces the price of his heavy duty tape from Rs.30/- to Rs.28/- a reel and the price of a regular tape from Rs.24/- to Rs.23/- a reel. A computing centre normally spends Rs.1440/- a month for tapes and 3/4 of this is for heavy duty tapes. How much will they save a month under the new prices?

- A computing centre normally spends Rs.1440/- a month for tapes and 3/4 of this is for heavy duty tapes.
Amt spent on HD tapes = 1440*3/4 = Rs 1080.
Amt saved on HD tapes = 1080*2/30 = Rs 72.
Amt spent on regular tapes = Rs 360
amt saved on regular tapes = 360*1/24 = Rs 15
Total amt saved = 72+15 = Rs 87 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(54) No(9)
- for old price
Hd tape = (3/4)*1440 = 1080
Hd tape + Reg tape = 1440
(3/4)*1440 + Reg tape = 1440
SO, Reg tape = 360
HD tape = 1080
no. of reg tape = 360/24 = 15
no. of HD tape = 1080/30 = 36
For new price, Hd tape savings = (30-28) = 2
Reg tape savings = 24-23 = 1
Total savings = (36*2)+(15*1) = 87
Note : here the twist in question is Rs.1440 is the expense of both reg and HD tapes. and not reg tapes alone..so be careful.. - 11 years agoHelpfull: Yes(28) No(0)
- 1440 * 3/4 = 1080
1080 / 30 = 36
1440 * 1/4 = 360
360 / 24 = 15
36 * 2 + 15 * 1 = 87 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(24) No(2)
- Total Expenditure on tapes=Rs.1440
Total Expenditure on heavy duty tapes=3/4*1440=Rs.1080
Total reels of heavy duty tape=1080/30=36
Total savings on heavy duty tape=36*(30-28)=Rs.72
Total Expenditure on regular tapes=1/4*1440=Rs.360
Total reels of regular tape=360/24=15
Total savings on regular tape=15*(24-23)=Rs.15
Total Savings=Rs.72+Rs.15=Rs.87 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)
- Given that (3/4)th of 1440 is spent on heavy duty tape.
Therefore, cost spent on heavy duty tape= 1440*(3/4)=1080.
If Rs.1080 is spent on heavy duty tape, then the number of heavy duty tape bought= 1080/30=36.
The balance Rs.360 is spent on regular tape.
Therefore the number of normal tapes= 360/24=15.
Now for the new price rates, the cost spent by the company= 36(38)+15(23)=1353.
Thus the amount saved= 1440-1353=87. - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
