A man spends 1/3rd of his salary on food.of the remaining he spends 1/4th on rent and 1/5th on clothes.if he is left with 1760,then how much salary does he earn?

if x is the salary , then

x*(1-1/3)*(1-1/4)*(1-1/5) = 1760
x*2/3 *3/4 *4/5 = 1760
x= 1760*5/2 = 880*5 = 4400

1760+x/3+x/4+x/5=x
x=8123

First let me tell question is bit wrong he spends 1/4 of rest on rent and then 1/5 of rest on cloth.
Let me solve this
let the total earning=x
then spend on food=x/3.
then remaining is x-x/3=2x/3.
then 1/4 of 2x/3=1/4*2x/3=x/6.so it is expends on rent.
then the remaining amount is=x-(x/3+x/6)=x/2.
then the amount spent on clothes=x/2*1/5=x/10.
then x-(x/3+x/6+x/10)=1760.
Hence x=4400.
