A nawab gets out at a railway station 2 earlier to his scheduled arrival. He walks at 3mph speed. At the same time, when he left railway station a cab left his house so as to reach the station just on time. He is walking towards his house. He got his cab on the way and reched his house 1 hr before what everybody thought it as his scheduled arrival. What is the distance between his house and railway station?

  Then it can be solved as below:-
  
  car travelled 1 hr less in whole journey and 1/2 hour less in each direction.
  It means nawab walked for 1.5 hrs and met cab on the way .
  The cab has also travelled for 1.5 hrs.
  also car takes 2 hrs to rach station from home.
  
  Distance travelled by man in 1/2 hr = distance travelled by cab in 1/2 hr
  If C is cab speed , then 3*1.5 = C/2
  C= 9 mph
  Total distance from house to station is covered by car in 2 hrs.
  
  so total distance = 2*9= 18 miles
