The arithmetic mean of two numbers is 10 and the geometrid mean is 8. Find the two numbers.

• AM (x,y) = (X+Y)/2=10 = X+Y=20......1
  GM (X,Y) = SQUAREROOT(XY) = 8 .......2 (IE) XY=64(taking sqrt on both sides)
  FROM (2) X=Y/8.....3
  SUB 3 ON 1
  Y/8 + Y =20
  Y^2 - 20Y + 64=0
  Y=16 X=4

• let a and b be two nos.
  so,(a+b)/2=10 and sqrt(ab)=8
  so,a+b=20 and ab=64
  so,a=20-b...substitute this in ab=64 and you will get a quadratic equation
  solving it you will get two values:4 and 16
