- The answer is Rs.42.... Yes, she started off with 42 rupees... Take the unknown amount as x and proceed... When she spent half, then the money becomes x/2 and when she gave 1 rupee to the beggar, The remaining money is (x/2)-1. On simplifying it we get (x-2)/2. When she spent half on lunch the remaining money is (x-2)/4. Like this, continue in the same way and you will find the last expression as (x-34)/8. This expression is equal to 1 because she had only one rupee at the end. And so (x-34)/8=1. On solving it, we get x=42...

- going bottom up,
she has 1 dollar, she gave 3$ to children, all of these was half of what she spent
so, 4X2 = 8
similarly, she gave 2$ to charity and she was having 8$ already
so 8+2 = 10, which was half of what she spent
so 10X2 = 20
at the beginning, she gave 1$ to beggar and half of what she spent on shopping,
20+1 = 21
21X2 = 42 Ans. - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- ans is 22 dollar.
let x be the money she had
then 1/2(1/2((x/2)-1)-2)-3)=1
by solving above equation x=22. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(5)
