Peter and Paul were friends. After six years Paul wil be twice as old as Peter was when peter was as old as Paul. If sum of their ages is 36 find the age of Peter?

• lets take peter age before 6 years = x
  so now peter = x+6
  and paul = 2*(x+6)
  so x+6+2*(x+6) = 36
  x= 6
  now peters age = 12
  paul age =24

  Then, y + 6 = 2x ----(i)
  and, x + y = 36 ---(ii)
  Now,
  => y + 6 = 2(36 - y).
  => y + 6 = 72 - 2y.
  => 3y = 66
  => y = 22.
  Hence, age of peter will be 36 - 22 = 14.
