A company rented a machine for 700/- a month. 5 years later treasurer calculated that if the company has purchased the machine and paid monthly 100/- maintenance charge the company would have saved 2000/-. what was the purchase price of the machine.?

• per year=700*12=8400
  then for 5 years=8400*5=42000
  for maintanace rs 100 for 5 year=6000
  =42000-6000-2000
  =34000

  therefore,
  x+(100*60)+2000=5*12*700
  x=42000-8000
  x=34000

• total rent paid by company in 1 year = 700*12=8400
  total rent paid by company in 5 years= 8400*5=42000
  maintenance charge of 5 years = 100*12*5= 6000
  cost of machine is=
  42000-6000-2000
  =34000 (ans)
