exam Maths Puzzle Numerical Ability

Simplify the following fraction.
2x^2+x-6 /2x+4
I did it this way but I am not sure if it is right.
(2x+x)(x-6)/2(x+4)= 2x^2-6/2+4= 2x^2-6/6= 2x^2
Could someone please tell me if that is right?
