Time and Work
If 20 men or 24 women or 40 boys can do a task in 12 days working for 8 hours a day, how many men working with 6 women and 2 boys take to do a task four times as big working for 5 hours a day for 12 days?
Read Solution (Total 10)
-
- ans is 122
Amount of work done by 20 men = 24 women = 40 boys or amount of work done by 1 man = 1.2 women = 2 boys.
20*12*8/1=m*12*5/4
m=128
6 women are the equivalent of 6/1.2 = 5 men and 2 boys = 1 man.
he equivalent of 5 + 1 = 6 men are already working on the project.
then 128-6=122
Therefore, 122 more men are required to work with 6 women and 2 boys to complete the task.

- 20m=24w=40b
5:6:10
1m=2b
3w=5b
so 6w=5m,2b=1m
20 men can do a task in 12 days working for 8 hrs
20*12*8=(6+x)*12*5
x=26
required men is 26

- Let’s try solving this Problem using ratio approach.
Amount of work done by 20 men = 24 women = 40 boys or 1 man = 1.2 woman = 2 boys.
Let us therefore, find out the amount of men required, if only men were working on the job, to complete the new job under the new conditions and then make adjustments for the women and children working with the men.
The man hours required to complete the new job = 4 times the man hours required to complete the old job. (As the new job is 4 times as big as the old job)
Let ‘n’ be the number of men required.
20×12×8=n×5×12×4 ⇒ n=8
8 men working will be able to complete the given job.
However, the problem states that 6 women and 2 boys are working on the job.
6 women =
6
12
=5 men and 2 boys = 1 man. The equivalent of 5+1=6 men are already working.
so answer is =2 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(2)
- but work is increased by 4 times so men also increases by 4 ( as more work, more men)
ans 26*4= 104

- ans m=122
20m*12*8*=24w*12*8=40*12*8
5m=6w=10b
take lcm of 5,610=30
m=6 efficiency
w=5 efficiency
b=3 efficiency
this will substitute and get total work=11520
now a/c to question 4*11520=(m*6+6*5+2*3)*5*12
here m= man count

- Ans: Total Men = 122
Amount of 1 work done in 12 days working 5 hrs/day by 20 men = 24 women = 40 boys OR
20 : 24 : 40 OR 5 : 6 : 10
OR 1 : 1.2 : 2
5 Men = 6 Women
1 Man = 2 Boys
6Women +2Boys = 5 + 1 = 6 Men
Which means (6 men + x men) needed to complete 4 times work in 12 days working 5 hours a day.
Using formula - > work1/work2 = (People1*Days1*Hours1) / (People2*Days2*Hours2)
1/4 = 20*12*8/(6+x)*12*5
1/4 = 4*8 / (6+x)
6+x = 128
x = 122 - 6 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
