A lady has fine gloves and hats in her closet- 18 blue, 32 red, and 25 yellow. The lights are out and it is totally dark. In spite of the darkness, she can make out the difference between a hat and a glove. She takes out an item out of the closet only if she is sure that it is a glove. How many gloves must she take out to make sure she has a pair of each color?

- As is totally darker in the room we can take the maximum case ie,consider that the first 32 gloves she picks out are red in color.Now we have only yellow and blue.Consider next she picks out 24 gloves,yellow in color.Now we have 1 yellow and 18 blue left.So now she take 1yellow and 1 blue so that only blue ones remain.Now the propabilty of selecting blue is maximum.So the nt 2 will be blue in color.So she should take atleast take(32+24+2+2)=60 to make sure she has a pair o ech color.

- ans is 60
worst case (16+16) =32 red
(12 +12)= 24 yellow
1 yellow + 1 blue=2
1 blue + 1 blue =2
total =32+24+2+2 =60 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
