- Simple solution:
Given: Vessel contains: water -- 3 parts. Syrup -- 5 parts.
Required: Both should be half-- half i.e. 4-4 parts
Sol: take one part of syrup and add it to water i.e then both will have 4 parts.

Let x litres of this liquid be replaced with water.
Quantity of water in new mixture = 3 - 3x + x litres
