A person has his own coach & whenever he goes to railway station he takes his coach. One day he was supposed to reach the railway station at 5 O'clock. But he finished his work early and reached at 3 O'clock. Then he rung up his residence and asked to send the coach immediately. He came to know that the coach has left just now to the railway station. He thought that he should not waste his time and started moving towards his residence at the speed of 3miles/hr. On the way, he gets the coach and reaches home at 6 o'clock. How far is his residence from railway station.

• 18 miles.
  
  He walked for 1.5 hrs and coach travelled in one side for 1.5 hrs instead of 2 hrs to save 0.5 hrs one side journey of coach.
  
  So Coach speed is 3 times speed of man i.e. 9 mph.
  
  Total distance of stn from Home = 1.5( 3+9) = 1.5*12= 18 miles

• The coach left the house at 3 o'clock and reach the house at 6 o'clock. Therefore has travelled for 3 hours.
  
  The person was moving towards his residence and met the coach at some point. From this point the coach move back to his house. Therefore the distance from house to that point and vice versa is the same. Which mean that the car travel from house to that point in 1.5 hours (3 hours / 2)
  
  The coach leave the residence at 3 o'clock to arrive exactly at 5 o'clock. which gives 2 hours of travelling. So the coach had already travelled 1.5 hours and the person has travelled for it's 0.5 h
