Time Distance and Speed
A farmer travelled a distance of 61 km in 9 hours. He travelled partly on foot @ 4 km/hr and partly on bicycle @ 9 km/hr. The distance travelled on foot is:
14 km
15 km
16 km
17 km
Read Solution (Total 13)
-
- If F is distance travelled by foot, then
F/4 +(61-F)/9 =9
solving it, we get
F= 16 kms.
check 16/ 4 +45/9 = 4+5=9 hrs - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(21) No(1)
- foot bicycle
x 61-x
(x/4)+((61-x)/9)=9
(9x+61*4-4x)/36=9
5x+244=9*36
5x=324-244
x=16km
The distance travelled on foot is 16km

- let ,the distance travelled by foot = x
then distance travelled by bicycle = 61-x
total time taken in hole jerney = time taken by foot + time taken by bicycle
9 = x/4 + (61-x)/9
x=16
so, distance travelled by foot= 16 km - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- suppose distance traveled by foot is x. So dist. traveled by bicycle is 61-x
x/4+(61-x)/9=9
after solving we get 5x=80
so x=16

- let distance covered by foot = x kms
covered by bicycle = (61-x)km
so take addition of both times and equals to 9 kms
so
x/4 + (61-x)/9 = 9 hrs
after calculation x will be 16 kms - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- 4x + (9-x)9 = 61
4x + 81 - 9x = 61
5x=20
x=4
on foot at 4km/hr for 4 hrs he travels 16 kms - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- Going with hit & trial method, if we take 16km as correct
foot=4km/hr=16km/4hr
remaining 5hrs in bicycle =9km/hr=45km/5hr
hence 45+16=61 km which fits in the question - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(1)
- assum
travlied time foot=x hours, travlied time bicycle=y
total distance:4x+9y
total time :x+y=9
solve this equation x=4,y=5
distanc travlled on foot= 4*4=16 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- x/4+(61-x)/9=9
x=16 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- let the distance by foot be x and distance through bicycle be (61-x)
so t = d1/v1+d2/v2
hence, 9= x/4+61-x/9
x = 16km - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(0)
- in this question time is indirectly given ie 4.5 hrs (partly)
v= 4kmph
v=d/t
d=18km
if it is right pls give response bcos im also in confusion - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(8)
- 4x+ 9(9-x) = 61
81-5x = 61
x =4

- given ,61km in 9 hrs
we know time = distance/speed,
so x/4-(61-x)/9=9
by solving we get x=14km - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(2)
