A garrison of 3300 men has provisions for 32 days when supplied at the rate of 850 g per head. At the end of 7 days, a reinforcement arrives, and it is found that the provisions can last for 17 days more when supplied at the rate of 825 g per head. What is the strength of the reinforcement?
(a) 1700 (b) 1000 (c) 3000 (d) 2700
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- 3300 men -> 32 days -> 850 g/head
After 7 days,
3300 men -> 25 days -> 850 g/head
After reinforcement = 'x' arrives,
(3300+x) men -> 17 days -> 825 g/head
Now, men count is inversely proportional to the days for survival
So,
3300*850 -> 1/25
(3300+x)*825 -> 1/17
Solving the above two we get,
3300 + x = (3300*850*25)/(17*825)
So, x = 5000-3300 = 1700 - 14 years agoHelpfull: Yes(12) No(0)
- 825*17*x=850*25*3300
=> 5000
strength of reinforcement = (5000-1300)= 1700
final answer 1700. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(0)

- For 3300 men in 32 days, total food = 850*32*3300
after 7 days, food available=850*25*3300..............(32-7=25)
food for 3300+x = (3300+x)(17)(825)
(3300+x)*17*825=850*25*3300
x=1700 - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
