  Suppose he worked x hours overtime.
  Then,
  20+5x/8=25
  or, 5x/8=5
  x=(5×8)/5=8 hours
  So he worked in all for (40+8) hours = 48 hours.

• always whenever there is a problem that, if anything is increased by 1/nth of the given number then the increased total will be 1/(n+1)th of the given value..
  
  so for the given proble
  initial value was 20 for 40 hrs
  now the salary became 25 i.e 5rs has been increased.
  so 5rs of 20rs is 1/4 .. which means the salary is increased by 1/4th times
  so the work done by him will be 1/(n+1)th time of a total number of hours he worked.
  
  i.e
  he worked for 40 hrs .. so 1/(n+1) of 40 is
  1/(4+1) = 1/5 times of 40
  which is equal to 40/5= 8
  so he worked for extra 8 hrs.

  Basic pay of 40 hours = Rs. 200.
  
  ∴Basic pay of 1 hour = 20040
  
  = Rs. 5
  
  According to the question,
  
  200+x×5×125100 = 300
  
  => 254x = 300 - 200
  
  => x = 100×425 = 16
  
  ∴ Total hours of work
  
  = 40 + 16 = 56
