A,B and C started the work and after completing 1/5th of the work C left. A and B then worked for 20 days. C then took over from A and B and completed the remaining portion of the work in 12 days. If C takes 40 days to complete the work, in how many days wourd A alone or B alone complete the work if the efficiencies with which they work is the same?

Let A and B individually take x days to complete the work.
The work was completed in three phases.
Phase 1 = 1/5 work
Phase 2 = 20/x+20/x
Phase 3 = 12/40 work
Phase 1+2+3 = 1
so,
1/5+(20/x+20/x)+(12/40) = 1
x = 80 days
