I the numerator o a fraction is increased by 200% and denominator is increased by 250% the resultant fraction is 3/14. What is the original fraction?
a)1/2 b)3/4 c)1/4 d)1/8
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- Ans. c) 1/4
if the original fraction is x/y then after increasing numerator by 200% and denomenator by 250% new fraction will become 3x/3.5y
3x/3.5y = 3/14 => x/y = 1/4 , Hence original fraction is 1/4 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(19) No(0)
- Answer : c) 1/4
Reason :
Let P and Q be the original numerator and denominator respectively.
P when increased by 200% becomes, P + P(200/100) = P (100 + 200)/100 = 300P/100
Q when increased by 250% becomes, Q + Q(250/100) = Q (100 + 250)/100 = 350Q/100
According to the question, (300P/100) / (350Q/100) = 3/14
Or 300P/350Q = 3/14
Or P/Q = (3/14) x (350/300) = 25/100 = 1/4 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(0)

- Ans. c) 1/4
if the original fraction is x/y then after increasing numerator by 200% and denomenator by 250% new fraction will become 3x/3.5y
i.e., x+x*200%/y+y*250% =3/14
=>x+x(200/100)/y+y(250/100) =3/14
=>x+2x/y+2.5y =3/14
3x/3.5y = 3/14 => x/y = 1/4 , Hence original fraction is 1/4
