- Let the age of eldest,middle and youngest grandchild be x,y,z respectively.
x=3z and x=2(y+z)
so 3z=2y+2z or z=2y which is practically impossible.
Question is wrong.
Question should be age of eldest is 3 times Middle child's age.
In that case x=3y and x=2(y+z)
So 3y=2y+2z or y=2z
and x=3y=6z
now first condition says age difference between 2 children is 3.
possibilities are x-y=3,y-z=3,x-z=3
or 6z-2z=3,2z-z=3,6z-z=3
Since we need only natural number solutions,the only possibility is y-z=3
or 2z-z=3 or z=3
so y=6 and x=18

Pls check this statement and then check ur sol.
Eldest child age is 3 times the youngest childs age .
As per your sol
Age of eldest (18) is not 3 times the age of youngest (3).
Pls check. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(2)
- let the age be x,y,z
given x=3z and x=2(y+z)
then x-y=3 or y-z=3 or z-x=3
now, 2(y+z)=3z
2y=3z-2z...2y=z
y=z/2
z=x/3,y=x/6
here where z-y=3 so x/3-x/6=3
hence X=18
by substituting x we will get y=15 and z=6
therfore the answer is a)18 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(6)
- sol:- suppose the ages are X,Y,Z. Given X=3Z,ans also X=2(Y+Z).
Let us assume Z's age is 6, then X's will be 3*6=18.
from above X=2(Y+Z) 18=2(Y+6), then Y will be 3 and age difference between Y & Z is 3 satisfied.
so X=18,Y=3,Z=6 - 13 years agoHelpfull: Yes(3) No(2)
- @dhivya
question is wrong brcause eldest persons age will be 3times of middlest persons age
so in that case the equations will be satisfied - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(2)
- 18...as x=3z
