Probability
three dices are thrown what is d probabily to gat atleast one six?
Read Solution (Total 4)
-
- when a dice are thrown the probability that it will not be six is 5/6.
hence when 3 dice are thrown 5/6*5/6*5/6 i.e 125/216.
so the remaining cases atleast one 6 will be there hence 1-(125/216)
hence ans is 91/216

- One trick that we can use for solving the probability questions involving at least is by considering the “Unfavorable cases”
To understand the approach for this situation, lets assume a person, say Mohan, is betting with his friend.
Mohan says that there will be at least one 6 on the dice, so it is the case in which Mohan wins the bet or can be called as favorable cases for Mohan
His friend is the other party in the bet, so now lets focus on the cases in which the friend wins the bet.
Friend will win the bet if the result is not according to what Mohan has said, that is if opposite of what Mohan has said happens, his friend will win the bet.
These can be called as “Unfavorable cases” for Mohan.
Lets continue the focus on the friend only. The friend wins the bet when there is no 6 on any of the dice.
The first dice should be 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5
and
The second dice should be 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5
and
The third dice should be 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5
The total number of ways in which the friend can win is 5 * 5 * 5 = 125
Note that the total number of possibilities when one dice is thrown is 6, two dice are thrown is 36(6* 6) and three dice are thrown is 216(6 * 6 * 6)
Of the 216 cases, Mohan will lose 125 cases.
Number of times Mohan wins = 216 – 125 = 91
Probability that there will be at least one six = 91/216
91/216 is the answer
