Maths Puzzle
Two clocks were correct at midnight but then one began to gain four minutes every hour. It stopped one and a half hours ago showing 4:48 pm. The clocks run for less than 24 hours.
What time will the other clock be showing ?
Read Solution (Total 3)
-
- 5.15 PM
After x hrs , time shown will be x+4x/60 = x+x/15
as per given condition
16x/15 = 16+48/60 = 16+4/5 = 84/5
x= 84*3/16 =63/4 hrs = 15 hrs 45 min or 3:45 PM
so present time = 3:45 PM + 1hr 30 min = 5 :15 PM - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(5) No(0)
- let us say that clock A is correct and clock B is gaining the time.
At midnight (12:00A.M) both are correct. clock B is gaining 4min every hour and stopped showing 4:48pm i.e,(16:48). Now, for 16 hours it gains 64min(1hr 04min)
and for 48 min it gains 3min 20sec. so total time it gained in extra is 1hr7min.
so the correct time is (4:48-1:07) i.e, 3:41PM. And, since it stopped 1hr 30min ago, the time clock A(correct time) showing is (3:41+1:30) i.e, 5:11 P.M.
