A person starts with the speed of u/1 kmph and returns with the speed of u/2 kmph, what is his average speed.

• the formula to find average speed is = 2xy/(x+y) [ where x and y are the two given speeds. so according to this problem... the average speed is.. 2*u*(u/2)/(u+u/2)= 2u/3 kmph.

  total time=t1+t2=x/u+2x/u=3x/u
  total distance=x+x=2x

• if x is speed of a distance and y is speed of returning or covering same distance then avg speed is given by 2xy/x+y..
  so here,
  
  x=u/1 and y=u/2
  therefore avg speed =(2u*u/2)/(u+u/2)
