The sum of a number and its square is 182. Find the number. Can someone please show me the solution and steps to take to get it?

• Let the no. is x.
  So according to the problem
  x+x^2=182
  x+x^2-182=0
  x^2+(14-13)x-182=0
  x^2+14x-13x-182=0
  x(x+14)-13(x+14)=0
  (x+14)(x-13)=0
  So x=13,-14
  Now -14+(-14)^2=182
  And 13+13^2=182
  Ans. 13,-14
