• you need to consider the worst case here. Consider 3 brands as brand1,brand2,brand3. Now I start picking. First pick i got brand1,2nd brand2,3rd brand3. In the next pick i will surely match any one of the brands i already have.(only 3 brands are there in the box) So max picks=4. For the socks, both black and brown are dark colors. So consider worst case again: first pick i get black,2nd brown and in the 3rd pick i match any of them i already got. so max picks=3.
