Q. When I become as old as my father is now, I will be 5 times the age of my son and my son will be 8 yrs older than what I am now. father+my age=100. How old is my son now?
Read Solution (Total 5)
-
- Let X be the my father's age, Y be the my age.
1)Given X+Y=100-----(1)
2)if I becomes as old as my father is now----> if Y becomes X
3)then my son's age is X/5;
also given X/5=Y+8;----------(2)
By solving (1)&(2) X=90,Y=10 then
My son age =X/5 =18; - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(10) No(2)
- father's age .. 65,
my age .. 35
son's age = 13 yrs - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(12)
- For problems such as these always start by making a table. This will help in setting up equations faster.
Now Future
Father x
Me 100-x x
Son y 100-x+8
From statement 1
x = 5y ----------------------- Eq1
From my age
Time taken to future = x - (100-x) = 2x-100
From my sons age
Time taken to future = (108-x) - y
Equating
2x-100 = 108-x-y
or
3x+y = 208 ------------- Eq2
Substitute x from Eq1 in Eq2
15y +y = 208
16y = 208
y = 13
My Sons age in 13, My father is 65 & I am 35 - 8 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(1)
- can anyone explain this.
- 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
