If a 10 lit. mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 2:1 then, how much more mixture should be added to change the ratio to 1:2 ?
Read Solution (Total 6)

- If you add the same mixture again,the ratio will still remain the same.
The question should be how much water to be added
In 10 litres, let quantity of milk = 2x and quantity of water = x
=> 2x + x = 10
=> x = 10/3 , 2x = 20/3
Let y litres of water be added to make the ratio 1:2
=> (20/3) / (10/3 + y) = 1 / 2
=> 40/3 = 10/3 + y
=> y = 10 liters
Therefore,10 liters of water to be added. - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(49) No(5)
- quantity of milk=10*2/3=20/3
quantity of water=10*1/3=10/3
new ratio=1:2
milk:water=(20/3+x)/(10/3+x)=1/2
40+6x=10+3x
30=3X
x=10 - 10 years agoHelpfull: Yes(20) No(3)

- 2:1 ratio clearly shows 6.66 lit of milk and 3.33 lit of water. To be a 1:2 ratio milk is kept constant and the water is to be double of milk content which is 13.32 litres in that we already have a 3.33 litres so remaining 10 litres should be added

- Two mixtures are initially in the ratio p:q,then after adding some mixture we get new ratio a:b.Total quantity=x
Formulae to find the quantity of mixture to be added(quant)=(x(pb-qa))/(a(p+q))
quant=(10(4-1))/(1(3))=10
Ans:10 litres - 7 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(1)
