Maths Puzzle
Find the number which must be subtracted from each of the numbers 17, 20 and 24 so that the results are in continued proportion ?
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- For continued proportion
these numbers are in G.P so,
17-x,20-x,24-x,..are in G.P thus,
formula for G.P,
(20-x)^2=(17-x)(24-x)
400+x^2-40x=408-41x+x^2
x=8
the numbers are
9,12,16,48/3,64/3,.. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(2)
- If we subtract 8 from these numbers then resulting numbers 9, 12 and 16 will be in continued proportion as given below:
9:12::12:16
gives 9*16 =12*12 - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(1) No(3)
