It is dark in my bedroom and I want to get two socks of the same color from my drawer, which contains 24 red and 24 blue socks. How many socks do I have to take from the drawer to get at least two socks of the same color?

- Consider the worst case. Remember you can have either pair of red or pair of blue socks. In 1st pick i get red, 2nd pick i get blue( I can also get red but you need to consider worst case).3rd pick if you get any color you have a pair. So ans is 3 picks.

- let in the first turn it may be red colour
in 2nd turn it may be blue or red colour.
but to ensure that 2 are of same colour 1 more drawing is required.
3rd time it may b blue or red so matching with atleast 1 of the previous drawing.
so total no of socks to be taken=3 - 14 years agoHelpfull: Yes(7) No(2)

- firstly i picked blue then second i picked red it might be blue also considering worst case and in third pick you already have one red and one blue so if you pick any one there will be socks of two similar kinds so ans is 3

- probability to get two socks are red = 24c2/48c2 ,
probability to get two socks are blue = 24c2/48c2,
Therefore to get two socks are same color = (24c2/48c2)+(24c2/48c2)=2*(24c2/48c2)=23/47 - 14 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(28)
