Age Problem
The ratio between the present ages of P and Q is 5 : 7 respectively. If the difference between Q's present age and P's age afler 6 years is 2, what is the total of P's and Q's present ages ?

- If their present ages are
5x and 7x, then as per condition
7x-5x-6=2
2x=8
x=4
then ages are 20 and 28.
sum of ages = 20+28=48 yrs - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(4) No(1)
- given ratio of ages 5:7
let the present ages be5x and 7x
after 6yrs ther age is 5x+6, 7x+6
given aft 6yrs the diff is 2,ie 5x+6-(7x+6)=2
we get x=1,
so there age is 5*1,7*1
ie 5,7

- given -- p/q = 5/7
therefore p=5q/7
(p+6) -q = 2
substitute p in above equation =>
5q/7+6 =2
q=14
Substitute Q in second equation.
(p+6)-q=2
p=2+14-6
p=10
p=10 and q= 16 is the answer.
