A merchant has 100 kgs of sugar, part of which he sells at 7% profit and the rest at 17% profit. He gains 10 % on the whole. Find how much is sold at 17% profit?

let CP of sugar is Rs 1 per kg.
and he sold x kg at 7% profit, then
x*1.07 + (100-x)*1.17 = 1.17x
x=70

- Need some correction in the equation given by Mr. Pargat as
x*1.07 + (100-x)*1.17= 1.1*100 ,which gives x=70, so 100-x=30 kg. sold at 17% profit. - 9 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(0)
- consider that 1kg sugar is rs.1, then 50kg at 17%, 50kg at 7%, so use alligation method its very simple....
