-5/6x - (x-1/2) = 1/4(x+1)

here's what I have so far:
-5/6x - x + 1/2 = 1/4x + 1/4

Its been a couple years since I've taken college algebra and Ive been having some trouble with this problem. It would I do not understand how to do this problem. It is 2x+3=8. I can not find the steps any were to figure out this problem. Can you show me the steps please?
