Maths Puzzle
The length of a rectangular field is six yards more than its width. If the area of the field is 40 sq. yards,
find its length and width
Read Solution (Total 2)
-
- length=10yards,breadth=4yards ans.
sol:
Let l and b are the length and breadth of the rectangular field
then according to the problem,
l=b+6---(i)
we know that:
area of rectangle=l*b
->l*b=40 sq.yards [from the question]
->(b+6)*b=40 ,using (i)
therefore,b=-10,4 but breadth will not equal to -10
so, b=4 & l=4+6=10
hence,l(length)=10yards
b(breadth)=4yards ans. - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(2) No(0)
- l=w+6
l*w=40
(w+6)*w=40
w^2+6w-40=0
w^2+10w-4w-40=0
w(w+10)-4(w+10)=0
(w+10)(w-4)=0
w=-10 or w=4
width should be positive value so w=4
l=w+6=4+6=10
lenght=10 yards,width=4yards - 12 years agoHelpfull: Yes(0) No(1)
