Mr. Sonkar says to his son Suresh, " My age was two years more than 7 times of your’s age before
30 and 1/2 a year and after 2 and 1/2 a year, my age will be twice of yours age of 1/2 a year before".
What will be the age of Suresh after 12 and 1/2 a year.

Solution

Let the present ages of father and son are "x" and "y" respectively.
According to the first condition given
(x - 30.5) = 7 ( y - 30.5 ) + 2 (i)
According to the second condition given
(x + 2.5) = 2 ( y – 0.5) (ii)
On solving these equations we get the solution.

s is present age of Suresh , then
( S-61/2) = 7( s-61/2)+2........(1)
( S+5/2) = 2*(s-1/2) ...........(2)
Solving (1) and (2), we get
s= 35.5 years
So age of Suresh after 12.5 yrs from now = 48 years

y is present age of Suresh , then
( x-61/2) = 7( y-61/2)+2
2x = 14y-362...............(1)
( x+5/2) = 2*(y-1/2)
2x= 4y-7........ ...........(2)
Solving (1) and (2), we get
14y-362=4y-7
y= 35.5 years
So age of Suresh after 12.5 yrs from now = 48 years

Considering all the given conditions, we find that

Age of Sonkar = 67.5 years
Age of Suresh = 35.5 years

Their Ages before 30 and 1/2 yrs .. 37 and 5
37= (7*5 )+2

Age of Sonkar after 2.5 yrs = 70 yrs
Age of Suresh before 0.5 yrs = 35
70 = 35*2

Further age of Suresh after 12.5 yrs will be 48 yrs.

x-30.5 = 2+ 7*(y-30.5)
x= 2+7y - 213.5 +30.5 = 7y- 181.....(1)

x+2.5 = 2( y-0.5)
x= 2y-1-2.5= 2y-3.5........(2)

From (1) and (2)
7y-181=2y-3.5
5y=177.5
y=35.5

Age of Suresh after 12.5 years = 48 years
