Simply,if we look carefully then we will get triangular pattern of the above series.ie pattern within pattern.

As series given 1,1,3,9,23,?-----(1)
take difference of 2nd and 1st term then 3rd and 2nd term and so on.
and we get a pattern 0,2,6,14,?----(2)
if we again apply the same rule
then we will get 2,4,8,?-------(3)
clearly in ? of equation (3) 16 will come and this 16 will be added to 14 in equation (2) then we get 30 and this 30 will be added in equation (1).
finally we will get in ? of equation (1) is 53.
Hence option (3) is the right answer.
