A boatman goes 11 km against the current of the stream in 2 hour and goes 16.5 kms along the current in 60 minutes. How long will it take to go 41.25 km in stationary water?

Solution

Speed (upstream) =11/2 = 5.5 km/hr
Speed (downstream)= 16.5/1= 16.5 km/hr

Speed in still water = 1/2 (5.5+16.5) = 11 km/hr

Time taken in stationary water to go 41.25 KM = 41.25/11 = 3.75 hr = 3 hours 45 minutes
