On increasing the side of a cube by 50 %, its volume increases by ?

Solution

Let the side of the cube is 1 meter

Then volume of that cube = 1*1*1 = 1 cubic meter

50 % of 1 meter = 0.5 meter

Hence new volume of the cube = 1.5*1.5*1.5 = 3.375 = 337.5 %

Increment in the volume = (337.5 – 100) % = 237.5 %

Let earlier side of cube = 2 units ..
New side = 3 units.

earlier vol = 8 units
New volume = 27 units.

Increase in volume = (19/8)*100= 237.5%

If x is initial side and 1.5 x is increased side, then

Initial volume = 1*x^3

New volume = 3.375 * X^3

Increase in volume = 2.375 *x^3

if sides of cube is increased by 50% then the then the volume will be 27x^3/8 if x is the original side of the cube. So the increase in % will be =237.5%.
