Mr. Raj purchased new vehicle. When his friend Mr. Ratan enquired about its number, Mr. Raj replied that it is 4-digit number with all different digits in ascending order. The ratio of first two digits and last two digits is equal. Also fourth digit at unit place is three times the second digit at hundred place. Mr. Ratan was good at Mathematics, so he quickly replied that there are two such a four digit numbers. Find the difference of these two numbers.

Solution

Given, 4th digit is three times the 2nd digit, so possible 4 digits can be _ 1 _ 3 ; _ 2 _ 6 ; _ 3 _ 9
To get numbers in ascending order formed by different digits and equal ratio of first two digits and last two digits, we cann't take '0' at first place.
So, possible numbers are only 1236 and 2369
Hence required difference = 2369 - 1236 = 1133

With given conditions,
2nd digit ( hundred place) can not be less than 2.
Hence last digit ( unit place) can be 6 or 9.
So numbers are 1236 and 2369.
difference = 1133

The numbers should be in the form of (a b 3a 3b)
As it was given that (a< b)
And a:b=3a:3b
Now if a=1,b=2 then the number is 1236
If a=2,b=4 then the number is 2369.
Hence the difference
=2369-1236=1133

let's 4 digit number be abcd
given that d=3b and a/b=c/d
=>a/b=c/3b
=>c=3a
now 4 digits are a,b,3a and 3b
if we take a=1 and b=2
then the numb is 1236
if a=2 nd b=3
num=2369
difference 2369-1236=1133
hence ans is option 1
