There are white, pink and blue colored balls in a basket . The ratio of the number of blue, white and pink balls respectively is 8 : 11 : 7. If there are more than 15 pink colored balls, what is the minimum number of total balls in a basket ?

Solution

Ratio of blue, white and pink balls = 8 : 11 : 7
Let their numbers be 8x, 11x and 7x respectively
Number of pink balls can be 7, 14, 21, ....
Given, there are more than 15 pink balls. To get minimum number of total balls, considering minimum number of pink balls=21
So, 7x=21 or x=3
Hence, minimum number of total balls = 8x+11x+7x = 26x = 26*3 = 78

As pink balls are more than 15, hence possible minimum number of pink balls is 21 (7x3)
Hence minimum number of total balls = 3*(8+11+7)= 78

Blue : White : Pink :: 8 : 11 : 7
Blue balls = 8x
White balls = 11x
Pink balls = 7x
Since balls can't be fraction, x is a whole number 0,1,2,3.......
If pink balls are greater than 15, then x=3 and above satisfies it.
Total balls = 8x + 11x + 7x = 26x = 26*3 = 78

As per given condition, pink balls are more than 15.
Hence minimum no. blue white and pink of balls are 24, 33, 21 respectively.
Hence minimum no. of total balls = 24+33+21=78
