According to the given condition
Profit of second business – loss of first business = 1, 00,000
Implies that x*0.12 – 20, 00,000*0.16 = 1, 00,000
Implies that x = 35, 00,000

Now in second business profit%=12%,
==> profit=investment*12/100------>(1),
And overall profit=1,00,000,
i.e, profit in second business - loss in first business=1,00,000,

==> investment=35,00,000

2nd investment say I so the equation should be
I + (I*12/100) = I + 4,20,000
On this equation 2nd Investment is 35,00,000

gain in second case=(3.2+1)lacs=Rs 4.2 lacs,
let investment in 2nd case be Rs x,
gain=12% of x=4.2 lacs

let the second investment be x.
so profit%=profit*100/c.p
so,12=420000*100/x
so,x=3500000.
[profit should be 320000*100000]
