Sum of the ages of a boy and his father is 70 years. Before 20 years Father's age was 14 times the age of the boy. What was the age of father at the time of birth of the child?

Solution

Let present age of father and the son are x and y
then according to the given condition
x+y = 70
before 20 years
(x-20) = 14(y-20)
so 70-y-20 = 14(y-20)
or 50-y = 14y-280
or 15y = 330
or y = 22 and x = 48
so at the time of birth of child, age of father = 48-22 = 26

B+F =70
F-20 = 14*(B-20) or F= 14B-260

solving these, we get
F=48 and B =22.

then 1st case :-
x+y=70
and 2nd case :-
14(x-20)=y-20
on solving we
x=22 and y=48
so answer is at time of bitrh of the child is

Father Current age as F
Given Conditions,
B + F = 70
F - 20 = 14*(B-20)
By solving above equations,
B = 22
F = 48

20 years back b * 14 = f --> 1:14 (1 and 14)

20 years back --> 20 + 20 = 40 (f-20, b-20)
