A business has two steps. In first step, there is 40 % profit in total investment and in second step, there is 12 % loss in the total output after first step. Overall percentage profit in the initial investment will be

after first step output = x*1.4

lets asume 100 is the investment Amount.
First Step is there is 40 % profit in total investment. means the total amount now will be 140.

second step, there is 12 % loss in the total output after first step means 12% on 140 comes to 16.8. Left amount is 123.2.
Profit is 23.2 from the invetment of 100. Percentage is 23.2

let x be the initial investment
i) 40%profit = 1.4*x
ii) 12%loss = 0.88*(1.4*x) = 1.232*x
net profit = 100(1.232 - 1) = 23.2%

Assume that we invested(Capital) Rs 200 at the beginning.
First step 40% profit (200*40/100) Rs 80
Now total amount at the beginning of second step
200 + 80 = 280
Now in second step 12% loss (280*12/100) Rs 33.6
remaining Amount : 280 - 33.6 = 246.4
Initial capital : 200
Overall profit : 246.4 - 200 = 46.4
Overall profit in Percent
(100 * Overall Profit / Initial Capital) =
100 * 46.4 / 200 = 23.2

In first step, 40%profit,
So lets consider, person invested Rs.100.
Output of first is Rs.140
In 2nd step 12% loss = 12% of 140 = Rs. 16.8
So total profit = Rs.123.2 out of Rs.100.
So profit is 23.2%

then 40% profit and after First step =140;
then total investment after first step =140;
and 12% loss from 140;
then 140-12%(140)=140-16.8=123.20;

please take initial business start with 100 then after first step 40%profit then become 140 , 12 % loss means then 16.8 will subtract from the 140 then 123.2 means 23.2 is profit
